At Purple Cars, we aim to make your car rental experience as smooth and transparent as possible. Part of our process involves a damages deposit, ensuring peace of mind for both you and us throughout your rental period. Here's everything you need to know about our damages deposit policy:

What is a Damages Deposit?

When you rent a car from us, we require a damages deposit to be placed at the beginning of your rental period. This deposit is designed to cover any potential damages to the vehicle while it is in your care. The amount of the deposit depends on the type of vehicle you rent:

  • Runabouts Fleet: A damages deposit of €250.
  • Budget Fleet Cars: A damages deposit of €500.
  • Premium Fleet: A damages deposit of €750.

This deposit is taken at the start of your rental and is fully refundable at the end of your rental period, provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition it was hired out.

How Does It Work?

  • At the Start: When you pick up your car, the damages deposit will be collected. This can be done via credit card, debit card, or any other accepted payment method.
  • During Your Rental: Enjoy your journey knowing that our insurance covers all drivers in the event of an accident where the other party is at fault. Drive with the assurance that you are protected.
  • In Case of an Accident in Spain: Regardless of the severity of the accident, Spanish law requires all parties involved in any vehicular accident to complete the European Accident Statement form, also known as the European damages form. This standardized form helps in reporting the accident details accurately and assists in the swift processing of your claim.
  • If You Are At Fault: If an accident occurs and you are at fault, the damages deposit acts as your excess. This means that the damages deposit you've placed is the maximum amount you'll be liable for in the event of an at-fault claim.

Exclusions from Damages Deposit Coverage

It's important to note that certain types of damage and incidents are not covered by your damages deposit. These exclusions include:

  • Theft, fire, and vandalism.
  • Damage to the windscreen, headlights, and tyres.
  • Towing charges.
  • Loss of keys.
  • Damage to the roof and underbody of the vehicle.

These specific scenarios represent situations where additional charges may apply beyond the damages deposit. We encourage all customers to drive safely and responsibly to avoid such circumstances.

  • At the End: Upon the return of the vehicle in the same condition it was hired out, your damages deposit will be fully refunded. Refund processes are straightforward and aimed at being completed promptly.

Peace of Mind

Our damages deposit and insurance policy are designed to give you peace of mind during your rental experience. Your maximum liability, in the unlikely event of an at-fault claim, is limited to the amount of your damages deposit. Additionally, the requirement to complete the European damages form in the event of an accident in Spain ensures that all necessary details are documented, further protecting your interests. Please be aware of the exclusions to ensure a seamless rental experience.
